An eastern Ohio school district is experimenting with an incentive usually deployed by parents to coax good grades out of students -- paying them up to $100 for good performances on state achievement exams.
A quote from the article points at the fact that we are, in fact, dumbing-down learning for our students: "It makes you question whether the definition of 'proficiency' anyplace is anchored in real-world demands."
